3 Tips to Decrease Distraction

Do you remember the days before cell phones and laptops were a thing?

I remember buying a pager when I was a teenager and thinking I was so cool…lol. I am happy that I grew up during an era prior to public internet access, and computers that are small enough to fit into our work bags. When we wanted to connect with others we had to do it either face to face or over the phone.

Now a days it is so easy to get distracted with our little pocket computers a.k.a cell phones. ?

Do you ever find yourself scrolling through social media during times when you have other priorities? Do you find yourself trying to focus on a task, but having that gnawing feeling in the back of your mind that you need to check your email?

Although technology is great, sometimes it can allow others to have TOO MUCH access to us. This week we will talk about ways to get some of your time back.

3 Tips to Avoid Distraction

Tip#1 Identify your goals and priorities.

It is really important to decide on your personal goals and to determine your actual priorities. It is easy for us to say something is a priority or a goal, but if we track our time, we will see our real priorities. Decide if the way you are currently spending your time is benefiting you or not. Will it get you to your desired end goal?

Tip#2 Decide when it’s okay to have downtime.

We all need time to relax and unwind. When we are relaxed we are able to think clearly and make better decisions. Both our body and mind, benefit from us achieving a relaxed state. Try to ensure that you get sufficient sleep and that you take time out to do things that make you laugh and smile.

Tip#3 Make adjustments to help you stay focused (as needed).

As you take time out to evaluate those things that are stealing time from you, consider making changes when needed. It is really hard to become self-disciplined, but as the saying goes “ we must choose our hard”. This means that we can choose the hard task of becoming self-disciplined, so that we can enjoy a better life. Another option is to choose to allow life to dictate what happens to us, and miss the opportunity to accomplish the goals and task that we desire.

Decide today to take control of your time this year and take the steps needed to ensure your life goes in the direction that you desire.
